Mission Statement

We welcome, celebrate and support all people and cultures by offering free access to books, information, resources and the universe of ideas.

We believe the transforming power of unfettered access to information is foundational to an enhanced quality of life for an informed, enlightened and engaged population.

The North Branford Library system, composed of the Atwater Memorial Library in North Branford and the Edward Smith Library in Northford, has been providing service to area residents since 1933. Today, the Library offers access to information and entertainment through technology, research tools, downloadable books, music and movies. The Library has a collection of more than 65,000 items including books and media, newspapers and magazines, museum passes and our collection of Library of Things.

Our diverse programs are designed for a broad range of ages from toddlers building early literacy skills through adults and seniors interested in lifelong learning and personal enrichment. The Library provides meeting rooms and technology assistance along with free computer, Internet and Wi-Fi access. Our online services are available for our patrons 24/7.
